The role of development organizations is one of facilitation between diverse partners, rather than one of steering project management from a central decision-making position.

A project is located in a web of relationships. These relationships needs to be established, understood and managed.

<strong>THE PROJECT OWNER</strong>
  • To be able to influence decisions affecting their lives, local people, through social mobilization and participation, must become full partners in project initiatives rather than passive beneficiaries.
  • Local ownership and capacity building encourages self management for development and reduces vulnerability.
  • Active citizen participation is a necessary foundation for democracy.
  • A project can claim success when society’s most marginalized people themselves indicate how they have benefited directly from the projects.
